    Der Untergang

If you loved 'Band of Brothers' I really recommend this supplement, 156 min german movie about Hitlers last days. Really detailed, scary, good acting and not the usual Hollywood cliché.
You can say much about Hitler but, unlike Saddam, he had balls until the end.

Don't watch this if you are suicidal

    anyone seen it?

It's not the masterpiece they claim to be.. But it's very good.

I saw it also in German. Even without subtitles ;o)
I think the purpose of that movie was to show the world, that the Germans where no "monsters" - not even Hitler himself - but humans. Even if they where mostly quite insane humans.
I myself never doubted this, because humans are more brutal than everything else on this planet. The greed, infatuation and this stupid feeling of superiority, which seems to be a feature of mankind, leeds in the end to all wars the world had to face so far.
Watching this movie made me feel sad, because you realize that things have not become better since 60 years. Maybe not even since some thousand years when the first people chose a leader for themselves.
Just look around: you see this greed and also the infatuation everywhere - if you think of the moslems who kill themselves in a "holy" war or at George W. Bush who tries not only to force his own people to live for the "christian values" he does, but to force his preferred system of society upon a people with _completely_ different values and a completely different culture.

You can sum it up as "homo homini lupus". It's sad, but it seems to be the truth.

I'm going to see it on the 6th. I have a friend that works at a movie theater and he has arranged that they will open the theater for just a group of his friends. Looking forward to it..
