the use rm -r /somedir/dir-to-be-deleted-in/* (will ask for confirm)

if you are 100% sure you know what you do use:

rm -rf /somedir/dir-to-be-deleted-in/*

you can as well first change into the directory and then type:

rm -r * (with confirm)

rm -rf * (without confirm)
