It's not really an ambush at all. You just can't think of a better term, that's all.
Ambush - The act of lying in wait to attack by surprise.
When soldiers are attacked in an Ambush, it's called an Ambush because the entire attack was a surprise, not because there's some question as to what the ammo is that's being fired at them.
