What do you do with your old computers?

I've had a few sitting around for a year or so, I'm probably just going to give them to some charity.

I give them away. Usually to models that don't have one.

I'm sure there are a few.. I usually sell em.. while they still work. I get a new machine every year max.. so they aren't THAT old.

Alot of schools around here will take them as donations.
I remember when I was in grade 8-9 I used to help the computer teacher out by piecing together systems from donated parts.
Thats always an option. I think my old one is still in my closet though....

i have thrown away everything escept the hard drives.

my paranoia will not let me simply throaw them away. hahaha

someone told me to pour coke on them, urban legend.

i am waiting to take a sledgehammer to the pile of them one day, other than that I just throw away what I cannot use and move along.

i need to get rid of all these old hard drives though

I always pass them down to someone that has a lesser machine (or no machine at all). Someone helped me get started waaaaaaay back so I always do the same.

they usually turn into "projects" around the house. one networks my refrigerator. the other my fish tank. I always find some sort of use for them.

parts to make them better are cheap, so I fix them up to be semi-nice and give them to my family...someone always needs a computer

this is what I am guessing is the ONLY route.

sledgehammer = privacy.

Give them to charity or to local famlies that need one.
We wipe the drives clean, reinstall OS and give them away.. Why destroy them? Some poor kid can use it to learn. Karma man...

A couple weeks ago I read an article about someone making a donation to a school or church group... something like that.

Maybe it was a police action...

Anyway, the HD was full of porn.

Don't make the same mistake.

I normally keep the screws, drives, memory (don't know why) and cables. Throw the rest in the trash.

We have one that is just over 2 years old and it is a piece of shit too. I willl never buy a Compaq again!
