    If they are stealing your affiliate codes, wouldn't you be getting paid for their signups?

        This is one of those posts that makes you wonder if the original poster is even IN the business.

            I sure wish someone would hijack my affiliate codes and promote it without my permission.

                I've seen a scumware plugin that looks for affiliate code patterns in the URL and replaces the refcode with someone elses.

                What do you want to know?

                      looking for someone that this may have happened to...

                      or who has specific knowledge of how it works and the best way to combat it.

                      basically looking to network with other good webmasters.

                      already did prelim search on web, now looking to 'talk' to other webmasters.

                        just link to a .php instead, which redirects to sponsor

                            Doesn't matter - the ref code will still be replaced on the redirect.

                                  Why? because I've seen a noticable decrease in my bottom line over the past year.

                                  Yet overall traffic is better than ever.

                                                I also thought about that. That would be fucked up, but I think there would have been lots of discussion already.

                                                    Buy you own domains and use them to to reditrect to your affilate code.

                                                    I own almost 300 domains for a good reason!

                                                      if the scumware is installed and is just chopping off your code?

                                                        All Ive heard the last few days on here is people whinging that there are not enough business posts on here any more.

                                                        This is why!!..... A guy asks a genuine business question and because most of you are too fucking stupid to understand the question you crap on him!!

                                                          Will this work?

                                                          To protect the affiliate links in your web site, and stop commission thieves in their tracks, you can disguise all of your affiliate links so they appear to be links to other pages within your site by creating a "redirection URL" for each of them. To do this, simply create a new web page that looks like this:

                                                          <HTML>
                                                          hahahahahaha>
                                                          hahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahaha="Refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=affiliate_url">
                                                          <TITLE></TITLE>
                                                          </HEAD>
                                                          <BODY>
                                                          </BODY>
                                                          </HTML>

                                                          Replace "affiliate_url" with your actual coded affiliate URL, and remove the periods at the beginning of each line that are used here for demonstration purposes. Now you will advertise your disguised affiliate links by directing visitors to your new URL:

                                                          http://www.yourdomainname.com/redirection_page.html

                                                          Until there is some kind of consensus and perhaps action taken on the issue, the best way to fight back against commission hijackers is to protect your site as best you can, and inform your affiliate partners of how thief-ware hurts the small companies and sites that help make the Internet great - and depend on their affiliate income to survive.

                                                            Yeah, I'm surprised at the number of adult webmasters who have no idea this scumware is out there.

                                                            For those of you who don't know, it basically works like an anti-virus program in that it scans source code before the browser displays it. Except this replaces affiliate codes with their own. It doesn't matter if you redirect sponsor traffic through another domain or hide it in a 1 second meta refresh.

                                                            Just a guess here, but I'm sure they likely target well-known sponsor programs instead of replacing all instances of "id=whatever" in the URL's since that usually doesn't involve affiliate codes.

A quick visit to some of the referring pages to see if their id is actually on those pages would catch this.

I promise you sponsors are getting ass raped at the major IPSP join pages. Other sponsors that own scumware are stealing the joins themselves. The ultimate answer lies within the IPSPs monitorring referring URLs and the Sponsors monitering joins as Sambo suggested.

                                                                                                  I have my own solution which is to combat the scumware guys directly. I won't tell any of you what that is though. But it's war if you have a lot of traffic so bring a big army to the battle fiield.
