Just to clear things up - We did not get evicted.
Mark told Tony (the landlord) that he suspected that we were moving, from all the noise he must have heard from us getting ready to move. The landlord was just as slimy as the asshat downstairs. We did receive eviction papers the day before we moved, even though we were not even late yet on the rent.
Between those two and the gunfire we'd hear from the crack neighborhood accross the street, we just had to get the hell outta there.
Anyhow, we are here in North Carolina in a 3 bedroom house, with property and we couldn't be happier.

I used to do some work at an apartment complex, and I'd consider this to be a pretty bad mess.
Also keep in mind that the maintenance man is the one who must haul the crap to the dumpster, and the poor cleaning ladies do the rest..... And nobody gets paid more for a trashed apartment than a good condition one except where the front office keeps the security deposit for themselves.
