A phrase I heard a little while back sums up a lot of those types of questions:
"When you owe the bank on a $100,000 loan, the bank owns you.
When you owe the bank on a $250,000,000 loan, you own the bank."
When you have more money than god, you're above the law... at least in those countries that worship at the temple of mammon. It takes a rare event to see people with actual money get cast down to the common rabble, such as the ultra-rich turning on one of their own to be a sacrificial lamb in hopes that it'll mollify the plebes.
