It is true. IN the last 1 month the price of steel has tripled. Try it.. Go buy some metal from ace. It will be 3 times the price it should be.
A 10 foot piece of 1.25 conduit is 25 dollars.
That is fucking crazy. Steel is a basic comodoity for our economy. I have seen gas prices go up before and that is bad enough. But I have never seen the price of a basic material such as steel triple in cost so quickly.. And the thing that really makes me nervous is that both gas and steel are going up very quickly at the same time. I think this spells major trouble for the economy..
And yes, I am sure that Bush does know things we don't. I trust him and he said in the beginning of this war that it would take a long time. 5 - 10 years maybe. I guess we will just have to hunker down and bite the bullet.Comment

a lot has to do with EPA tightening the rules on coke fired blast furnaces in USA, and putting big import tariffs on foreign steel.
less pollution, but now it has effectively put a damper on a big % of raw steel production.
steel scrap has hit an all-time high in USA. it can be melted down and converted without the use of the big blast furnace in steel "mini-mills" using either electric or gas for heat rather than coke.
all tampering with the economic model will create changes, and all steel goods produced in the USA will become expensive because of that.
expect Toyota to begin making appliances shortly and importing them into US.Comment
