Indeed, you're not likely to find a meaningful, relevant, commonly-used one word dot com like private.com for $2000, not unless you get really lucky. I think you'll have to look at another extension (Rick's perv.net could be a good one), or a short-but-meaningless/irrelevant name, or an uncommon word form, or a two- or three-word domain.
The domain permutation programs frequently turn up weird word modifications that could still be considered one word, though they wouldn't be commonly used. For example, private.com and most variations are gone, but privatizings.com is available. (Not suggesting you use that one, it's available because it sucks, just an example.)
