That is such a shitty solution to controlling outbound spam/viri that it almost makes me think that isn't the problem they are trying to address.
They need to be sued pronto.
Next thing you know they'll be filtering websites that have differing viewpoints to their own political agenda.
KRL, you should email the ACLU or something.
go ahead and sue. they don't give a flying fuck.
sue that's funny they don't care about you, KRL, or me.
You know how much it would cost 2 sue.
Can't sue over business you loose or lost... been there done that.
It's very, very, very, hard 2 prove how much business you lost, at least that's what my asswipe lawyer told me. That was a few years ago, maybe it's easier now.
Guess who i wanted 2 sue... Pacbell.. and they where clearly wrong, and admitted they where wrong. but that's not the point

KRL,
Is it possible that they are also blocking any emails that are calling for an image online? It's been two days that I get my regular dose of spam (about 700 a day since the CAN-SPAM kicked in - made things worse) but to my ISP email, I would normally get about 20-40, it's been 3 days that I'm not getting anything on those email accounts & I'm also checking on www.mail2web.com to make sure it's not some file blocking them from coming in.
Anyone else with Videotron experiencing the same thing?

I think so. My e-mail has dropped by about 50% recently.
Maybe Bell was the spammers choice in ISPs? Anyhow, wondering if I'm the only one - actually the only emails I got were from monster.ca with links, but I gather they wouldn't be blocking monster.

Ever since Cox started labeling spam emails, I've been having problems getting my mail. It can take days for me to get an email to my partner...who is just on the other side of the wall, in the same house. Yesterday she got an email that was 13 days old. Cox won't answer questions about it - they just say they "know" and they're "working on it". I don't even want to think about how many emails I've missed so they can label 20% of the spam emails. I guess I should just turn the spam guard off and see if that fixes things - it's not as though they do such a great job of getting rid of the stuff.
Originally posted by KRL I got the problem url through only when I wrote it as .com. With the http:// or the www. without the http:// it still got deleted.
so, it isn't deleting adult keywords like you were afraid of? just possible links?
I have this problem with my ISP, causes hellish trouble losing signup mails and info from other contacts. I've now accepted the cost of running my own mail server as a neccessary evil in doing business, but it sucks that it used to work fine
Looks like mail filtering & scanning is on the rise.
Originally posted by goBigtime Man... could you imagine the day that they start filtering the websites that you visit?
They would probably initially disguise such a form of censorship as some sort of solution to protect you from sites operated by evil-doers that contain viruses and dialers.
... and then of course broaden that to include anyone that isn't nodding their heads in agreement to whatever comes through the TV.
KRL, I still haven't had this problem after testing sending myself some e-mails with different hyperlinks a few times. Can you tell me what specific urls are being filtered for you? I would like to test them myself with my Bellsouth adsl connection.
Originally posted by KRL I was never notified of this and it pisses me the hell off to think first of all they are reading all my outbound e-mails, and second of all I send a lot of e-mails referencing hyperlinked URL's which are not going through and I am not being told why.

WASHINGTON -- Federal police are reportedly increasing Internet surveillance after Tuesday's deadly attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Just hours after three airplanes smashed into the buildings in what some U.S. legislators have dubbed a second Pearl Harbor, FBI agents began to visit Web-based, e-mail firms and network providers, according to engineers at those companies who spoke on condition of anonymity.
An administrator at one major network service provider said that FBI agents showed up at his workplace on Tuesday "with a couple of Carnivores, requesting permission to place them in our core, along with offers to actually pay for circuits and costs."
The person declined to say for publication what the provider's response was, "but a lot of people" at other firms were quietly going along with the FBI's request. "I know that they are getting a lot of 'OKs' because they made it a point to mention that they would only be covering our core for a few days, while their 'main boxes were being set up at the Tier 1 carriers' -- scary," the engineer said.

Has anyone heard anything saying that these Carnivore/DCS-1000 units have been removed, or are they still recording data?

The NSA's Echelon Network is scanning everything. TCIP/IP data packets, Faxes, landlines, cell phones, data networks uplinked through satellites. Every form of communication is being scanned for targeted keywords and individuals.
If a targeted individual makes a call from anywhere in the world on any phone system they can trace it now.

Heh, as odd as it is, I have nothing really to fear from the NSA, I don't hang out with the likes of UBL or Kim Jong Il, however my dealings over the years with a number of civilian cryptographers ensure I have a very chunky file someplace.
I have been aware of Echelon network about 1996 and Nicky Hager's book. For shits and giggles I used to include this plaintext...
Hello to my friends and fans in domestic surveillance!
...with all my PGP encrypted mail.
Just remember, strong cryptography makes the world a safer place!
It's their email servers, they can offer the service however they'd like... they're just trying to prevent spam, people bitch when they get emails with links people bitch when they don't
the majority of people bitch about links BEING there not NOT BEING there, they now have less complainers
It's not like somebody is reading people's emails, the server's mail client whatever it is is just coded to not send mails with the strings "http://" or "www." in them
no "spies", if you thought that you're an idiot
seems simple enough? thread closed
quit being paranoid newbies, use a different email service, if you send tons of mail they'll think you're spamming and disable access until you get white listed and verify you're a business with opt in email targets
LOL, are you shitting me? You made it into one of their dictionaries?
Their supercomputers are about 15 years ahead of anything else and using amazing nanotechnology and artificial intelligence to process all the trillions of data streams being funneled in daily.

im not much of a tinfoil conspiracy theorist but i do acknowledge the existence of echelon/carnivore. i don't really know what its intended primary function is beyond big brother but i'm flattered to be somewhat involved in its intelligence gathering measures and countermeasures.
off topic but are you still doing that music stuff krl?

Yeh as soon as I get Men all good to go and on autopilot, I'll be hitting that again.
Echelon is perhaps the most powerful intelligence gathering organization in the world. Several credible reports suggest that this global electronic communications surveillance system presents an extreme threat to the privacy of people all over the world. According to these reports, ECHELON attempts to capture staggering volumes of satellite, microwave, cellular and fiber-optic traffic, including communications to and from North America. This vast quantity of voice and data communications are then processed through sophisticated filtering technologies.
This massive surveillance system apparently operates with little oversight. Moreover, the agencies that purportedly run ECHELON have provided few details as to the legal guidelines for the project. Because of this, there is no way of knowing if ECHELON is being used illegally to spy on private citizens.
