If the lonely planet doesn't paint a great picture then I'm going to have to pass on nigeria. Lonely planet is notorious for trying to make it sound wonderful.
As for being cheap....
Ok I'm cheap and I quoted outrageous figures. But crap, some of you need to get a freakin life.... Don't take everything so blooming literal. Somewhere between 0.50 cent whores and $1,500 D.Ps is a place where a pornographer can call paradise.
IE: I earn enough money to not have to take food from set and get to cash my paycheck someplace other then at the 7-11.
