The black card has gotten bigger and bigger in the past years. And what is so great about it? The damn thing costs 2500 a year in fees, why the hell do you need it? Its not all that special, the benefits do not at all match the costs. Ok, you get a bunch of platinum and gold cards for free, but do you have that many kids that you want to be able to spend $50k a day?
An AMEX Gold is great already.

I dont have credit cards PERIOD. I have one fake mastercard that takes funds out of my chequing account, but thats it.
I dont have a need for them. I have enough on my credit report, and its one less bill in the mail for me to pay every month.
I probably wouldnt even have my fake mastercard if I wasnt in this biz. Gotta pay for things online somehow....

There are a few nice benefits to the black amex. Whether or not those benefits are worth $2500 depends on who you ask.
How do you get one? It's pretty strait forward. You have to be an amex cardholder for at least 2 years, and have spent a minimum of $150k on the card on travel and high end retail goods (i.e. gucci, armani etc.) within a 12 month peroid.
The best benefit of the card is that you get top teir status on about 8 airlines and all major hotels. Not that it really matters. If you have a black amex, you can just afford to pay for first class and the pres. suite anyway.Comment
