I'ev talked to many eye surgeons who are my closed friends. They have done numerous such operations without problems, 0% chances of failure. But they do not advise the operation - they say they only do it if the patient really wants it. In fact they advise against it at this stage, mainly for the long term questions. The myopic eye is a growing eye and a diseased eye, which is thinned out, and its size increases over time. Also there are other changes at old age. Since the procedure is a new one, they havent seen the patients after say, 30 years after the operation. The effect of the operation after 30 years would be anyone's guess. As for the short term effects everyone who's done it is extremely happy.
