I don't understand this. Iraqi prisoners are made to strip and wear dog collars in front of cameras, and the world goes NUTS. UN troops are RAPING YOUNG GIRLS, and where is the outrage?

Can you imagine the crap that would fly on this board if US troops had been doing this?

Meanwhile, we are supposed to work with a UN organization where this is going on, where the Iraqis "Oil for Food" program was used as a way for France, Germany and Russia to make billions while the Iraqis starved for 10 years, where brutal dictators sit on "human rights" commitees, etc...?

    What a joke...

It's been discussed here, it's been all over the press etc I'm not quite sure what are you trying to say, should we be more lenient towards the US troops who abuse Iraqi prisoners just because they don't rape little girls?

No, not at all. Those US troops should go to jail.

I've just noticed over the years on GFY that the outrage level seems to go WAY up if something occurs involving the US, and then way down if wrongful acts are committed by others. Particularly with those GFYers on the left. It's just interesting to note, that's all.

EXACTLY... If this was the US doing this in the Congo, people on this board would be SCREAMING for WEEKS that the US is evil, that the congolees should kill US troops, etc....

There are several big differences. For example, the prisoners that were abused were enemy combatants and terrorists actively trying to kill US soldiers.... the 13 year old girls in the Congo were just 13 year old girls, that were being raped by the UN troops....

Yes, but I dont think anyone ordered those soldiers to abuse kids. Its individual crime, and they will be punished for it. It's not ok.
Outrage comes if nothing happens or some leaders says it's ok.

"Enemy combatants" is just a term that the Bush admin applies to anyone they want - it doesn't mean the person was a proven terrorist or soldier. For all you know, the Bush admin was torturing kids as well.

Are you surprised that Americans expect more of their own government than Bush's pro-torture policies?

The prisoners that were abused were soldiers (civilians) that were defending their OWN country against the INVADING US troops.

That's because soldiers from fuckup assbackward countries do this shit all the time. Nobody likes it, there IS a huge outcry, but not much can be done because these countries are ruled by military juntas whose only concern is to stay in office.

OUR troops, on the other hand, are OUR representatives, and I don't give a fuck is little tommy is throwing spitballs in class, that doesn't make it right for little timmy to do it. If you want to downgrade our ethical standards to match the conduct of the Congolese, just move to the Congo instead and take the rest of the brain-dead right wing facists with you please.

That's exactly it. The troops who get caught for this will be punished. If a few American troops were caught having sex with young Iraqi girls, it wouldn't be because they were ordered to do it, and people wouldn't be as outraged as they are with the fact that American troops are ordered to torture prisoners.

This is an outrageous crime, and I think a lot of people would be outraged if the perpetrators somehow got away, or if it continues to happen.

Certainly if they were ordered to do this, it would be the biggest scandal in the history of the modern world.
