    Renaming a bunch of files in numerical order.

    Is it possible to rename files numerically in whatever order they are with any software?

    For example, say i have kylie2.jpg, kylie5.jpg and kylie9.jpg

    I want something that will turn those into 1.jpg, 2,jpg and 3.jpg

    Any ideas?

    I've been looking through Rename Wiz for a while but i can't find any way to do this.

          I just figured out i can do it with photoshop, but i can't figure out how to do it to sub directories. Can ACDSee do sub dirs?

              acdsee will do it, but you have to change to the new directory...you will have to do that with most programs

                              Thanks everyone for the help. This one seems to be the best i've seen, though. I'm still trying to figure it out though. So far i've got it renaming numerically in the subdirectories and all that, but it's still giving me some trouble.

                              say i've got these files...

                              /1/kylie2.jpg
                              /1/kylie5.jpg
                              /1/kylie9.jpg
                              /2/jamie3.jpg
                              /2/jamie5.jpg
                              /2/jamie8.jpg

                              It's renaming 'em like this:

                              /1/1.jpg
                              /1/2.jpg
                              /1/3.jpg
                              /2/4.jpg
                              /2/5.jpg
                              /2/6.jpg

                              and i was hoping it would do this:


                              /1/1.jpg
                              /1/2.jpg
                              /1/3.jpg
                              /2/1.jpg
                              /2/2.jpg
                              /2/3.jpg

                              If that makes any sense. Probably some little option i've overlooked. Any ideas?

                                                  I had one like this a while a back... a buddy of mine made it. But it doesnt work in XP for some reason, so this will come in handy.
