keyboard lawyers this threads for you

what would you say is the legality of buying content with a license for use on say 5 domains but keeping it all in use on a sub domain such as content.domain.com and using that same content to feed hundreds of individual sites all hosted on their own unique doains but ensuring that the content is only ever served from content.domain.com?

personally i see no reason why you shouldnt be able to do this but i wondered if anyone had run into trouble with any providers for doing this?

well, I'd look at it this way... all the time people buy content so they can put it on TGPs and picposts ... theyre serving it from one site onto hundreds of others, esp with picposts or thumb tgps ... and noone really gets in trouble huh?

Well actually ,this is a little grey area....a number of well known avs movie sites did just this...purchased movies for like 1 domain ,kept the actual movie on thier domain ,but let all thier affliates promote it.and make sub domain sites .im sure you know which big movie avs sites did this, and it caught out a few big video producers..a lot of legal action followed and as im aware some legal action continues.....Some of the big adult studios have now changed the wording of the licence...So in a nut shell yes it is legal, but when the studio or content producer discovers that they have well not covered thier backs ..expect some arguments and possible legal threats..In my option you would win any legal battle but ..well is it worth it,

Due to pending legal action a lot of avs movie type sites have now agreed to agree a deal with studios ,based on this ..the movie stays on the domain but so many webmasters ,ie 6 are allowed to use the content from that purchased movie..so the maximium will be 6 sub domains..this keeps the studio happy .
Myself i,d be upfront and save yourself hasstle at a later date and explain what you want to do,with the person/studio your buying from.
It may cost you more but legal action costs EVEN more .
        Hope that helps

actually from what i recall the stuff with adult bouncer was because they never had a license to allow webmasters to use that content as 'free' content or actually use the content period

in the context of my post im going to be the sole user of the content in avs, free and paysites so whats happening with adult bouncer and those studios would be a moot point

Actually i understand your point Global..i was just giving a general outline,
My guess would be that you would be ok..but if your sites became big or noticable ,you just may ..and i say just may find some sort of difficulty arise,

Think on it like this..if a studio offers a single domain licence it assumes it will be used on one site or maybe 2-3 inc sub domains ,if they expected it to be used on 1000,s of paysites(even thou they are all 1 domain) ,im sure they would charge a different amount for the licence and would not word the licence as such, instead they would say usable on unlimited sites/subdomains as long as its the same main domain.

Its the studios fault for the wrong wording ,and as i say you,d win any court case im sure ....but if they see that they have sold a movie for say 250 bucks and its now on a load of sites ..their greed will get the better of them and thier lawyers and they will be giving you hasstle, saying you exploited a loophole.
                thats how lawyers make $

So think how big your sites will become and if you think they will remain under the radar then fine ,if you think they will get a lot of exposer then well ..id be upfront with them

Global ,what you could do is simply build a members area ie [email protected] and then build front ends ,ie diffrent paysite fronts going to the same 1 area ,a lot of big paysites do that without any problem

Hope i havent given any secrets out there
