Monogamy is an IDEA.

Monogamy is an IDEAL.

By definition, an IDEAL is something we have to struggle towards, it ain't easy, it goes against the tide of our impulses.

Those of us who try, pursue this IDEAL not because we are ascetics (in love with self-denial), but because we have faith in an uncertain gratification of a very high order.
