    Ladies of GFY, listen:

    My girlfriend got diagnosed with a benign tumor in her breast... some of you might remember the thread that I posted last week about the lump.
    Fortunately, it is nothing serious, a surgery is elective.

    All GFY ladies, if you don't do it already, get a very thorough meticulous exam for your breasts every month, you can never know.

          i dont think every month is necessary but its imperative to be checked out every year or two

                                      My gf went to get an exam back in August. Nothing was found, until last week during a routine examination at the gyno. Lumps can appear quicker than you think, and they are nothing to neglect for a year or two.

                                              The doctors told her it would be a good thing to do. The tumor is what you call a fibroadenoma, it's a benign tumor that apparently is quite common among athletes. The size of the lump suggests a removal, but a breast surgeon specialist will have to take a closer look soon.

                                              A self-breast exam every month or so can definitely make a big difference.

                                                  and for guys who post on GFY it's not their prostates they need to check , u gotta be in your 40's to start worrying about that - most GFYers are under 40. BUT u should check your testicles, guys in their 20's are very much at risk for testicular cancer and it's a very curable cancer early and a fatal cancer if it isn't detected and treated early.

                                                      Thanks for the tip.. and good luck to your girlfriend, fiboadenoma can grow pretty fast all of a sudden so she'd better have that removed.

                                                          I get one yearly, but didnt think i should get one monthly, now m scared shitless, i hate doctors

                                                          I am glad that your woman is alright though, that can be some scary times

                                                                              I am glad to hear that your girlfriend's lump isn't too serious! With breast cancer killing os many women, it is important for us to get checked out! Doctor's say to do it once a month on your own!

                                                                                  Good advice.. one of my girlfriends when I was younger had lumps on 2 seperate occasions.

                                                                                  Happily neither was cancerous..

                                                                                          You're right that breast exams need to be done more often, seeing as the earlier a lump is found the better the outcome will be. I myself give myself the weekly self test in the shower and have done so since i was 12. It was at that time that my Nanna had 2 cancerous lumps removed 1 from each breast.

                                                                                          I wish your girl the best of luck if she has the surgery to removed it.

                                                                                                          Thanks, I think that this is a subject that we just take for granted and it needs to be brought up once in a while. I do agree though (with no jokes intended), that it is important for men to get a prostate exam as well. It may not be comfortable, but it is extremely necessary.

                                                                                                                                                                                  I do a self exam a couple of times a month. Had a really close call, or scare, several years ago..... turned out to be nothing and went away, but it scared the hell out of me enough to where I do this and if I feel the least little thing, I panic.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      my girlfriend usually checks about once every other day

                                                                                                                                                                                                      never ever neglect your balls, neither should your woman!
