Wrong result on cellphone drives girl to suicide

A 17-year-old schoolgirl killed herself on Sunday morning after hearing she had failed CBSE's Class XII board exam. A greater tragedy is that the information she had got was wrong ? she had actually passed.
Aditi Jeena of South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) School hanged herself in her room some time before 7 a.m., after getting an SMS giving her the wrong information. Her parents had been out attending yoga classes with their other daughter when Aditi committed suicide.
Two cellular companies, Idea and Airtel, are offering results by SMS in Indore. The police would not say which of the two firms sent the killer message. Nor would they say whether the company was at fault, or whether Aditi made a mistake typing her roll number.
The first lot of CBSE Class XII results, of over 2.5 lakh students in the Guwahati, Chandigarh, Ajmer and Chennai regions (including 27 states and Union Territories) were declared on Sunday. Results for the Delhi region, including Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, are likely to be declared on Tuesday, CBSE said.
Overall, girls (pass percentage 94.02) have done better than boys (88.38%). In the Chandigarh region, government school children have done better than their private school counterparts.
