Man,it was fucking depressing the other week. I went to Joey Ramone's B-day Bash here in new york and after some great bands (The Supersuckers, The Dickes), they went on. Instantly the place was filled with screaming 15 year olds. OK, whatever, I'm not a big Alkaline Trio fan, but I suppose it's better than Blink 182 and all that. But then after Alkaline Trio finished, all these damn kids left. what came next was a band made up of Tommy and Marky Ramone, Cheetah Chrome, Jimmy Blitz, Walture Lure and Andy Shernoff with Little Steven MCing and these kids left. Maybe I'm just being bitter but the fact that everyone would rather see a tenth generation rip-off then the real thing just depressed the hell outta me.Comment

i really dont think they would rather see a tenth generation band, except thats prolly the only thing the have exposed to. First off, I should correct myself, it was Jeff Magnum who played, not Jimmy Zero (I'm confused today). But anyway, I'm pretty young, so when I was around 13 or 14 MTV was pushing Green Day as new punk (arguably, they're a lot better than what they're pushing today) and I thought they were pretty good. All that made me want to do though was find other punk bands, and it doesn't take a whole lot of searching to find bands like The Misfits, Agent Orange, The Ramones etc. Radio and TV have never really pushed the cooler punk bands but it's not like they're totally hidden. I dunno, I guess for most people it IS a fashion statement or a phase, but it's always bugged me.Originally posted by punker barbie
