Extortion - what should I do in retaliation?

Recently I hired someone to do a job for me on one of my sites.

I payed half for it upfront. He fucked everything up and dissapeared.

Part of what he fucked up was a database that is very important to how the site runs.

I got in contact with someone else who said they would attempt to fix it for me, but he cannot do anything without the database to recover the site.

The person who dissapeared contacted me and said he would give me the backups of the database if I payed him more money.

I told him to go fuck himself.

This person works outside of the adult industry, so flaming won't help shit. It's also a small comfort to know this happens outside of our industry as well.

So, what should I do in retailiation? He lives in Australia, while I am in the US.

And I mean realistically. What could I do digitally to get this cocksucker back?

Hmmm, that's a odd one, I don't know what you could do digitally, did he log into your servers? If so, you most likely have his IP address in a login log. Like if he FTP'ed, SSH'd. Getting his IP address can open some shit up, if he has a static ip.

Pay the extra money to get the database back if it cannot be recovered. Tell us all who he is so we know not to use him. And then forget about him.

Unfortunately, shit like this DOES happen in business. You could spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on "making him pay." But what for? Spend the time and money on your business instead.
