Very interesting thing happened at Starbucks today

It was 10 dollars and I gave them a credit card. The girl gave me a reciept, I asked dont I have to sign. She said you dont have to sign anymore unless its over $25. Isnt that the whole arguement why we are not protected against charge backs no signature?

Its the signature that matters, not the swipe .Anyone can present a cc card.

In all my years of retail, I've never had a chargeback. I have had a few idiots call because they shopped at our store on a Monday and saw a charge on a Thursday or something. Charges don't always show up automatically. In that case, I actually pulled out the receipt to see when they were in the store and how much they spent.

This happens at a lot of places now - most every restaurant at the airport, the parking pay on the way out of many parking garages, all for very low dollar amounts.

My guess is that it's a two fold situation at the banks -- a, they have a swipe so that's nearly as good as a card not present; b, they have a low dollar transaction that many people won't dispute; and c, in the case of the airport or the parking garages, they have a secondary form of what they consider to be ID since they have a picture of your car, you and your car, or your cars license plate if they should ever need to bring proof in a dispute.

Though I will say this, the Phoenix Sky Harbor parking has had some way way high dollar transactions go through without a signature on my cards, I am the one who's always late for my flight and will spend a week in hourly parking.

That's also why the gas pumps are all going to zip code entry in the states -- it's one more plus in the score on the fraud detection total that means you are the card owner.

Keep the receipts. You can't fight the cc ppl.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
