Like Lincoln's suspension of Habeas Corpus, the Alien and Sedition Acts, McCarthyism, Japanese internment (Canadian or American) and on and on. I think we already know the answer. Jefferson opposed the Alien and Sedition Acts. John Adams on the other hand was a huge proponent of them and was president when they were passed. Jefferson beat Adams in the next election and enforcement of the acts stopped.Originally posted by Paul Waters
