    Need new webhost that allows for unlimited domains with unique IPs

    Hi all -

    I was hoping I could get a little help with the community as I'm so frustrated with my current and previous hosting situations! I am currently with ProHosters, and was happy for a long time, but things have been going downhill and I fear it's time to make a switch.

    I am looking for a dedicated server, I'm currently using up to 200GB of bandwith per month (and hope for that to go up over time so need an account that can grow with me), 24/7 tech support, superfast connection, unlimited domains/subdomains with unique IPs, extraodinarily rare downtime (IF ANY), daily backups, subaccounts, Sawmill stats configured the way I need them for my SEO, a tech to transfer my accounts, databases, etc for me so I have no downtime btwn host switches, php, etc etc.

    I have hundreds of domains, about 20% of them adult, the remainder mainstream. Most of my adult biz is type-in traffic b/c I haven't developed it yet, but my mainstream stuff relies on search engine optimization for traffic and, as such, requires unique IPs for optimal rankings. This was something that was promised to me, at no extra charge, by ProHosters when I came on board with them and now, after a year and a half of being a customer, suddenly the techs are saying they need to ask for permission from their boss to give unique IPs for my new domain adds (we regularly buy new domains to add to our account) and telling me they need to charge for it. The salesperson from ProHosters had even told me that my previous host, Blue Gravity, was ripping me off by charging me for each unique IP address because there IS no cost for them - the hosting company just needs to be able to justify why a customer needs unique IPs and SEO is valid justification for that.

    I'd love to hear from other webmasters regarding their experiences with hosting companies that allow for unlimited IPs. ProHosters used to be everything I wanted in a hosting company, but lately its just been one disappointment after another. (I even have support tickets that don't even get a tech assigned to them for weeks at a time!)

    Suggestions??? Switching hosting companies is such a nightmare, so I want to make sure that I'm going to be happy for a long time to come with my new host

    Any help that anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated!

          I wasn't aware that google penalized for having multiple domains on even a shared (virtual hosting) IP address. I know of 2 SEO companies doing just that.

          This exact type of concern was raised on another board and the "experts" stated that it wasn't an issue.

              Let me be quite frank.. and maybe shed some light on to why you are not happy with your hosting situation.

              It sounds like you demand quite a lot of custom-taylored support for a relatively small monthly charge (200GB/mo).

              That pretty much sums it up. The custom stats, etc. all would go against what a host already has developed in-house for their managed solutions. Anything above and beyond "the normal stuff" you should really expect to pay for in tech time, if you want to be happy with your hosting situation for the long haul.

              Also, IP addresses *DO* have a fixed cost. It's not $1/ip per month or anything that crazy, but depending on the size of the host they pay at minimum $2500/year for a /20, or $5,000+ if they use more than a /19. This cost is not a lot, but figure a fixed cost of roughly $15-25/mo per /24 (class C, 256 addresses) when you include the overhead of IP management (not trivial). We generally pass through IP costs for low commit/high usage IP customers.

              Also backups are NOT a trivial cost item. In fact, it's an extremely high cost item most hosts overlook when saying "sure, we'll toss it in!". This would again be quoted out on a per-item basis.

              If you are willing to pay reasonable rates for tech-time that is caused by your non-standard configs (namely, the statistics/log rotation would have to be completely re-done for your server) I believe we would be a great fit for you.

              Prices would start at $199/mo for a server w/ 300GB included, and IP address fees would be set on a fixed schedule we would come up with depending on your exact usage. We don't look to profit off of IP usage, but we can't sell services at a loss either for obvious reasons.

                  Just to clarify -- it isn't like I'm not paying anything for this service. I'm paying $499 per month. That includes 500 gb / transfer a month of which I only use 200 at most. Prohosters doesn't have a plan btwn 100 and 500gb a month and it was costing me more having the 100gb account with overages than to just get the 500gb account and have bandwidth I'm paying for but not using. So seeing as how I'm paying for all this bandwidth I'm not using I don't think it's too much to ask for to get decent tech support (which is supposed to be available to EVERY customer, even those paying their dinky $20 per month for a virtual account). Also, setting up the sawmill stats is a one time installation -- I've done it myself before. I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

                  My experience w/SEO has been that unique IPs most certainly do matter, particularly if you are running many sites..

                  I appreciate the feedback though, and would love to hear from more folks about it.
