fantasia is rough, edgy, and thrilling to watch. a poor black girl with very modest roots. no stage mothers or handlers, the REAL thing.
she has more raw natural talent in the tip of her little finger than the rest of them combined. i had hoped that the final 3 would have been jennifer hudson, latoya, and fantasia, but america ain't ready for that kind of talent. they think a singer is britney spears.
if anyone actually deserves to be american idol it is her.
whether she wins or not i expect she will be bigger than aretha franklin.

Diana is a better singer. There's a difference between singing and sangin'. Fantasia can sang but she can't carry a simple tune like a basic singer like Diana could. Even if Fantasia wins I guarentee Diana will end up having a much bigger record on the charts. Not just because she's white but because the songs shem makes will be simpler and more accessable than the cat wailing Mary J. Blige wannabe records that fantasia ends up doing.
I wish Latoya was still in it. She was a better singer and was much easier to look at.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

Diana blew me away in the early auditions. And in round one she delivered a nicely sung rendition of a song about escaping from an abusive marriage, all with her pretty, perfect, pageant smile. Girl has as much emotional depth as a slice of Velveeta. well, there is some truth to what you say.
but i will say this.
the reason i respect fantasia, even as rough as she is (and i know that latoya or jennifer may be more technically competent) is that she takes chances with a song.
it's almost like a very early whitney houston. the girl has so much confidence that she will throw in a little trick vibrato at the end of a long note, that you just don't expect, something that might not even be rehearsed---and it is perfect, and somewhat risky to do live in front of an audience...and this is from a 19 year old girl.
remember the early whitney houston in the 80's, at the end of a really long note when she was almost out of breath she would go into a little breathy refrain that would just mesmorize you.
same with fantasia---this is a singer's singer.
in the music BUSINESS fantasia is bankable, not as a mainstream talent to be sure, but as a niche talent, for people who are really into the art.
britney spears is for the masses.
rickie lee jones is for people who love the art.
fantasia is in that league. if she sold stock, i would buy it.Comment
