That war is no game shit is a cop-out. There's one way to fight, which is supposed to be and used to be the American way. Then there's torturing farmers and butchering masses of people without case, which is the neo con way. Whatever you think about the reasons for war, the fact is the world needs completely different people running it right now. Wouldn't you rather have Wesley Clark as defense secretary? You know, someone who's actually been in a war.

The part that is posted here somehow reflects reality,the rest of it is not actually a way a marine is 'built' or would act.

WOW that is a pretty fucked story - but I expected it - I dont think we have anyidea what is really going on. People are just pawns to political aspirations - Sad but always has been always will be.

I have my doubts of the credibility of the article, much less the identity of this StaffSgt Massey.

Some of the terms he used a 12yr veteran of the USMC that was also a Drill Instructor would not use a bullshit term like "missile men" - what the fuck is that? Then he refers to Cluster bombs as ICBMs - HA! An ICBM is an Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (a.k.a. a multi-warhead nuclear missile).

The chances of him getting an Honorable Discharge from the Marines is ZERO. At best, he would have been reassigned stateside in some billet where he'd no longer be a liability; worst case (and most likely) is that he'd be sent back stateside for a Courts Martial for deriliction of duty in wartime and would have had to given that interview from Leavenworth Federal Prison.

As for said "conversation" with his SgtMajor I have to cry 100% bullshit. #1 you don't address a SgtMajor with that tone, #2 he'd have gotten an ass chewing that would have made the prisoner abuse look like childs play. I was in Okinawa and my SgtMajor gave me the gift of a free trip to HongKong for a week for winning a Merit Board. I had to respectfully decline this gift because I had just spent all my savings flying back to the states for two weeks and there's no way you can go to HongKong without money to spend. My SgtMajor chewed my ass for at least a half hour (felt like 3 days) for being bold enough to reject his gift. Now imagine if you walzed into your SgtMajor's office and said "I quit. What you are doing is wrong!"

Lastly, who the hell is "TheBee" and what kind of credibility do they have as a news organization.

My take is this:
1) The entire thing is total bullshit fabrication.
2) It was the sloppiest piece of misquoting or disquoting I've ever read.

Agreed! http://www.themountaineer.com/archiv...eofwarlea.html is probably the most accurate description of his plight. That opinion "interview" from TheBee in no way accurately represents SSgt Massey.

1) He didn't "train Marines" (e.g. a DI), he was a recruiter for a while.
2) It was his Commanding Officer, most likely a Colonel, that he went to when he couldn't take it anymore.
3) He wasn't given an honorable discharge, he was Medically Retired for Post Tramatic Stress Disorder.

He was merely an 0311 (Basic Infrantryman) who thought he could take what that means and found out the hard way that he wasn't made of the kind of "whatever" that it requires.

The bottom line is that the fog of war and all of its brutality and vulgarity got the best of him mentally and he wigged. Nothing to be ashamed of in that. Hell, had I faced combat I don't know how it would have affected me.

I'm sure he did have to kill civillians, but as Rochard so eloquently put, It IS a warzone and you can't take any chances. If a vehicle is speeding towards your checkpoint and shows no sign of stopping despite warning shots what are you going to do? Take a risk? Risk the lives of your troops? No, you ARE going to "light it up". It's sad, but that's the way it goes and any sensible person is going to be mentally and emotionally affected by realizing that you just killed innocents. You can temper your distress at that fact all day long by telling yourself "They should have just STOPPED!" - the question is will deep down you convince yourself that you had no choice?
