I was thinking about this last night and was thinking it's likely to happen and then this happens.

My thoughts are we will see a big push for the Iraqi govt to take over more of the day to day security operations. Regardless if there are still bombings, I think our troops will be switched to helping the Iraqi's only when the asked and also for guard duty at key locations.

I think we will then within the next 6 month to a year attack Iran like we did in Iraq in 91. Using cruse missiles and air strikes we could take out Iran's infrastructure and most of the military targets. We might send in a tank attack and keep it out in the open areas away from the cities where we have control.

We would then pull out and put trade sanctions on Iran and let them sit for 5 or 10 years sending in cruise missiles every so often. Then after Iran is hurting because of the sanctions, we go in and attack like we did in Iraq and install a puppet govt.

10 to 15 years the US owns the middle east and has Russia contained before the Russian economy comes back to compete with the US. This would end up being about the start of the oil peak, so with US friendly govts in control of Iraq,Iran,Afghan and Kuwait, others Libya and Syria would have to seriously rethink their positions if they wished to survive. This would also put pressure on the Saud's to crack down on thier terrorism support, as everyone knows the Saud's are the biggest supporters of terrorism.
