"My point is first of all that the Bushes were so close to the Saudis that they essentially had turned a blind eye to what was really going on before 9/11," Mr. Moore said in an interview. "And after 9/11 they were in denial."

Of course they do, and the president has the final say on whether a bill gets passed or vetoed. Parties will often times pass a bill they don't agree with in order for their own bills not to get vetoed. Thats the way government works. Nice how you conveniently left that from your comment.Originally posted by sperbonzo
Hey "Suck on This"
You have some classic propaganda there, but just in case you don't understand how the goverment works in the US:
All domestic policies must be passed by the house and senate.
Name one.Originally posted by sperbonzo
70% of the policies that you mention in your post were proposed by the republicans.Comment

I understand why some people don't like Michael Moore. I don't understand why they still question his honesty. I've seen him substantiate everything that has ever been disputed about his work. Yet I've never seen the critics substantiate their accusations that he's lying.Comment

Right ... are you are talking about the same "producers" , "distributors", "financeers", "film critics" etc that booed him off stage in the US?Originally posted by directfiesta

FYI, since you probably never attended this festival, it welcomes people from all over the world. In fact, 30 % of the professionals and the spectators are from the US ( producers, distributors, financeers, film critics, exhibitors, ...).
Sorry to break your image of a full house of as you call them " french smelly unshaven underarm" pussies....

1/2 of the people there are anti-US
probably 95% of the people there are anti-Bush.
why would it be a surprise that someone who attacks both would recieve support?Last edited by Pleasurepays; 05-17-2004, 02:58 PM.Comment

So true Danny, so true. Michael may be a bit weird and definitely left leaning but he's a thorough fact checker and has never said anything in public that wasn't backed up by several credited facts.Originally posted by Danny_C

Don't you get it? Being interested that George Bush does all kinds of shady business with the terrorists he's supposed to be fighting doesn't make someone "anti US". People who turn a blind eye to this because it suits them are the ones doing the country a disservice. If you were a real American you'd want a President who does the right thing for the country. People who support Bush under the guise of being "pro US" are the worst kind of hypocrite.Comment

Funny, Time magazine doesn't seem to think the idea of this movie is such a big joke.
http://www.time.com/time/arts/articl...638819,00.html
"Fahrenheit 911... has news value beyond its financing and distribution tangles"
"Bush and his father have enjoyed a long and profitable relationship with the ruling families of Saudi Arabia, including the bin Ladens. The best-seller ?House of Bush, House of Saud? by Craig Unger, whom Moore interviews, estimates that the Saudis have enriched the Bushes and their closest cronies by $1.4 billion.
Politicians reward their biggest contributors, and the Bushes are no exceptions. Fifteen of the 19 September 11th hijackers were Saudis; but when Prince Bandar, the Saudi ambassador who is close to the First Family, dined with the President in the White House two days after the attacks, the mood was collegial, not angry. In the Iraqi ramp-up and occupation, the Administration has rewarded its Saudi and Texas supporters with billions in rebuilding contracts. As Blaine Ober, president of an armored vehicle company, tells Moore: the Iraqi adventure is ?good for business, bad for the people.?Comment

"Hearing from Rep. John Conyers that no member of Congress had read the complete Patriot Act before voting for it, he hires a Mister Softee truck and patrols downtown D.C. reading the act to members of Congress over a loudspeaker. Toward the end, he tries to get Congressmen to enlist their sons in the military. Surprise: no volunteers. "
Sweet.
I can't wait to see this fucker now. The fact that Bush and the Saudi's want it hidden so badly seems to indicated it has some really explosive stuff in it. I doubt any sane person could look at the facts he presents and still vote for Bush, without completely convincing themselves everything he says is a lie. Too bad most people who still support this joke of an administration will have convinced themselves it's not true before they even know what it's about. Sigh.Comment

Duh, oil is so important because they made it important.Originally posted by sperbonzo
and BTW, I really can't understand all the screaming about not fighting over oil.
Oil is the thing that is MOST worth fighting over on this planet. EVERYTHING is dependent on it.
Food, (agriculture), fabrics, power, anything that is any kind of plastic (which is almost EVERYTHING), most building matereals, almost all medical equipment, all manufacturing, including pharmicuticals....etc, etc, etc.... INCLUDING the ability to get any goods from one place to another on this planet.....
Actually....if oil supplies stopped tomorow, we would be back to medieval/tribal warfare over food, crouched in slowly crumbling cities or sweeping over dying cropland in the country side....in short, the complete breakdown of all society and the death of billions....
If that's not worth fighting for....name something that is
If you invest in development, you will easily replace oil. Look that car industry... it clearly shows that the US gouverment did not went electric cars in 1990. The technology exists since decade but if big brother doesn't want it, you're fucked up."There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." -Hunter S. ThompsonComment

1/2 of what they spent on Iraq could have developed a fuel to replace oil and plastic forever. Don't expect superbonzo to start thinking any time soon. I'm sure he'll be the first to sign up to fight for the oil since he feels it's such a worthwhile cause.Originally posted by the indigo

I can see we got the adolescent mob in tonight with the usual diatribe about "the French" and how the Cannes Film Festival has something to do with the evil French, other than it's location.
Some are just too dumb to even begin to comprehend.... pointless!!

That's the biggest load of shit I've ever heard, clinton didn't do shit for the economy, the good economy during his term was basically due to regan's enconomic moves during the inflation crisis in the 80's.Originally posted by SuckOnThis
Clinton doesnt need any excuses. He led the country to the best economic times in history, had respect of leaders around the globe, and best of all pissed off republicans enough that they felt they had to impeach him over a blow job.
Now, whats your excuse?
I'm not a republican either, I've been voting green since I turned 18.
The democrats and republicans are equally worthless as far as I am concerned.Comment

don't you know the aliens are here! we'll find out half of americans are aliens and civil war will ensue!Originally posted by liquidmoe
You're missing the ball quite a bit, if you look at the history of civil war in any nation it is because a large portion of the population is in unrest, and two conflicting sides emerge.
A large portion of the US is not in unrest, there are no two clear sides fighting each other, and the economy is actually doing quite well, just the indicators used to determine its status are a bit outdated.
There are just about 0 chances for civial war.
0 chances of civil war in the next few years. Vast swathes of Americans will need a fair bit of pushing to kill vast swathes of other Americans - 99% of people are horrified when one of them gets their head hacked off, that sort of thing takes time to build up internally, you can never say never, but you're going to need catastrophic changes for it to happen in the next 10 years. We have an outside enemy in the "terrorists" to keep people galvanised together for quite some time.Last edited by bhutocracy; 05-18-2004, 12:39 AM.Comment
