Anyone UK Based with BT Broadband?

Anyone get a letter about having their service upgraded to 2mb but your bandwidth cut to 15gb a month?

Apache...I just spent all dang weekend trying to get my connection back up. I haven't had any letter at all but I heard rumours about capping. I dunno..time to change providers? I know you might have some insight.

What I DID know what that there is a 30gb month cap, but it's 'un-inforced'

But I got a letter saying, aren't we fucking great, you can have 2mb's for 4 quid less but then it says that my bandwidth cap is now 15gb a month... and that I can downlad 250 pics a week or 3 hours of video footage with that!... thanks a fucking bunch BT.

BT Yahoo...you? I *think* I am on 1mb but don't qoute me...that was marc's thing and they are the only company that is still giving me trouble about fully turning an account over to me even though they are happy to take the payment off my card.

AOL broadband has been advertising no caps...I wish it wasn't AOL or I would be tempted a lot more.

Well the good news for you is that you'll be getting 2mb's before the March 7th at no extra cost.

Seem to be the bland BT Broadband people that are getting shafted with the 15gig cap, BT Yahoo seems to be a 30gig limit.

It will go one of two ways, either BT will scrap their caps, or the other companies will end up having to enfoce them, they're all just reselling BT broadband connections at the end of the day.

yeah they are cable, a bit of a hassle to first be installed but worth it in the long run. They recently upgraded all their 1mb customers to 2mb for free though

which BT are about to do (from end of this week), but looking at their costs BT will be £10 a month cheaper

It's not quite as simple as that anymore and continues to evolve. Certainly other companies can compete and if not be uncapped as such at least have more realistic caps.

But then BT has offered some of the worst ADSL packages and service since day 1.

Interesting as NTL have a cap although not really enforced unless you abuse it on a regular basis.

I can't see how the reseller seem to think they have the avilable bandwidth and BT doesn't.

i know people who have sat on the upload and download limits of their blueyonder connections for months on end and never been hassled. I don't think they've ever really been ones to push bandwidth limits on people, due to their (comparitively) high prices i think they can keep it that way

To me, these caps seem like the whole 'unlimited bandwidth' webhosting this a few years back, the non-capped companies are just hoping that the light users will ballance out the heavy load users.

                                                Ok here's the scoop.

If you've got Cable, go with Blueyonder, they are the fucking best in the U.K hands down, although the price tag might seem a little out of line when compared to other ISP's they fucking rock. I was on the 4mbit connection and loved every second of it. Most of the other ISP's might have a fair price, but all have bandwidth caps if you search their TOS.

I recently moved out of London and can only get ADSL here, as far as ADSL goes, don't go with BT, BT Yahoo, or AOL. Their support is piss poor, and prices are sky high. I'm currently with Pipex.net, they resell BT bandwidth, but their service is fair.. no download limits and support is generally good. Price tag isn't too bad, I'm currently on the 2000 solo trial [2mbit] for £39.99/mo but there's speculation about a price decrease because of the BT drop. If I could get cable out here in the stix, I would immediately.

Hope this has been helpful =)

I must admit I have heard good things about pipex, but they'll never match the special price that BT offer me.

Here's another vote for Blueyonder if you're in one of their areas. I can't even contemplate how my husband would live if his porn downloads were capped (purely market research - honest)!! We're on the 2Mb line for £35 a month and we also have their phone and TV packages, the phone being substantially better and cheaper than BT. Their support is a million times better than BT too

BT are completly inept at dealing with SME's... they'll admit it, big business and consumer they can do, if you fall in the middle they simply can't cope.
