    Up-skirt Law to Destroy Mobile Phone Biz?

    How can you sell a 3G phone without mentioning its video-phone capabilities? And can you sell a 3G phone without a video camera? Well, if you sell phones, you may have to.

    It's always been something of an in joke with those who know the Japanese market for miniature cameras. You know that they are described as "up-skirt" devices, but you always assumed this was a witticism. But no: and now it's going to get the camera phone made illegal in America. The Video Voyeurism Prevention Act has now been approved. It passed the Senate last year, and has now got through the House Judiciary Committee. It, or something like it, will almost certainly become law.

      People were buying cellphones without cameras for years.

      A camera phone is just a gimmick really.. a way to differentiate your product from your competitors.

      Sell the sizzle and not the steak kind of thing.

          It's same idea as people who have guns and use them to kill people. Everyone shouldn't necessarily be punished or stopped from having a gun or phone with a camera...

              Just because they are going to make illegal what should probably be a given (ie: it is illegal to fuck a dead cat, or it is illegal to take an upskirt pic without the subjects consent) does not mean they are going to ban the manufacture of these telephones

                          I definitely feel there needs to be a law (with consequences) against photographing girls without their consent using cell phones. Occasionally I work a shift in a local strip club, and once in a while there we will catch a guy snapping cadids of the nude girls on stage (and this means there are likely many guys we don't catch). I feel bad for the girls that don't do print or internet modelling, because they generally do not want a permanent record of their nude performance. I don't worry about it as much, since I'm already naked on the internet, but even still the photos are poor quality and frequently very unflattering, and since I work so hard on my site and my content I woud prefer it if there weren't low-res, badly-composed, unflattering action shots in some random strangers possession.

                          I would like to see a requirement that cell phone cameras be manufactured with some sort of obvious signal when they snap a photo (like a sound or a light?). I think people would still be able to get around this, but it would possibly provide further protection against unauthorized photography.

                                                      A high resolution video/camera phone that can take at least 15 minutes of good clear video plus full size clear pictures will be a godsend to a pornographer.
