Just so everyone knows, I do realize I'm a big newb and my photography skills (and also my camera, but mostly my skills) are not so hot. I think it somewhat makes up for it (at least to my members) that I make the effort to do nearly all of it myself (usually with the timer on my camera... I wish I had a remote... maybe then I would smile more =P).
Also, I'm not big on posting pics of myself, but I'm making an exception for BradM since he's the one that finally satisfied me. =P

As far as the tattoos and piercings go, I realize that I would be more marketable without them, but I figure I'll be modelling on my site for such a short portion of my life (assuming I have a somewhat decent lifespan) that I should do what I enjoy with my body instead of what would be the most appealing to others. Also, if I do things this way, when people do visit my site and enjoy my photos we're likely to have more in common than if they liked the way I looked but I didn't.
I did have to remove my nipple piercings a couple of months ago due to some other health problems (I have a mild metal allergy that went haywire while I was ill), but I'm hoping to get them pierced again when I can afford it. Actually, and this is totally silly, I had an inverted nipple (you know, it's totally flat, apparently caused by extra tight tissues or tendons or something... common in girls with really firm breasts?) and the piercing actually *fixed* that breast. To get the doctor to fix it would have cost me nearly two hundred dollars, but to get the piercing that I wanted anyway only cost me fifty dollars, and it fixed the problem just fine.Originally posted by XxXotic

Well, that's kind of a difficult question, since pain is relative for everyone, but for me the tattoo on my chest didn't hurt so much. I wouldn't want to do it all the time, mind you, but it's certainly bearable for the two or three hours at a time that it gets worked on (I still have maybe three to five hours to go... everything inside the border is going to be color). The only tattoos that really hurt were the one next to my belly button and the one over my tailbone... I was counting the minutes on those.Originally posted by smack

The nipple piercings hurt tremendously... worse even than when I had my kidneys biopsied or my tonsils removed (well, maybe not worse than my tonsils... it's hard to remember that far back). They hurt a lot, anyway. I couldn't sleep on my stomach for about four days afterward, and I was supposed to get a blood test at the doctor's office afterward and I cancelled it because I couldn't handle the thought of any more needles that day. I'm not really looking forward to getting them re-done, but I miss having them and I, personally, think they look better, so I'll be going back in as soon as I have the budget.
Like I said, though, both tattoos and piercings affect everyone differently... maybe you would get one and not notice it at all, or maybe it would hurt so bad you didn't want to finish. Don Deaton at Sea Tramp Tattoo in Portland, Oregon. I also have some work by Jacki Randall who used to be there but is now at Painless Rick's in the same area (she did the star on my tailbone, which has some nice color that doesn't show in my bad photographs, and the woman next to my belly button). I try to avoid Suicide Girls, as they are (or used to be?) based in Portland (where I live) and I've never really managed to form a good opinion of them. The things that they did that I didn't approve of wouldn't have bothered me coming from another business, but the fact that they always represented themselves as some kind of big, alternative family who totally supported their girls made the issues more unacceptable.
