    South Africa to Stage Soccer World Cup in 2010

    South Africa will stage the 2010 soccer World Cup, the first time the event will take place in Africa, governing body FIFA announced.

    The country was selected ahead of Morocco and Egypt, FIFA President Sepp Blatter said in Zurich after a meeting of the executive committee. Tunisia withdrew yesterday as FIFA ruled it would not consider a joint bid with Libya, which was eliminated.

                                              good choice..especially when you think of how important the sport has been to the black communities in South Africa. I worry a bit about safety but then I would have worried about that in Lybia too.
