You got the facts wrong PA.
In February 2001, the Sun did a magnetic polar shift. The next one is due again in 2012.
Earth?s magnetic field also flips, but with less regularity. Consecutive reversals are spaced 5 thousand years to 50 million years apart. The last reversal happened 740,000 years ago.
When the poles shift, what basically happens is the earth's magnetic field wobbles and both poles weaken. This is what lets in massive amounts of solar radiation and fucks up the weather like what we're seeing right now. As the electromagnetic field starts to balance out again the south pole will now be the north pole and the north will be the south.
The worst part of all is that this basically fucks up the real estate on the planet. Every GPS coordinate will now be the opposite. Properties won't match their points of reference any longer as noted on their deeds. Military systems will be extremely screwed up. All the computer targeting systems in every offensive weapon, plane, tank, ship, etc. will have to undergo software corrections. The electric grid gets fucked up real bad too because of the effects of the polar magnetic reversals.
Weather will get even worse than it is now.
I believe this polar shift has already begun. The weather is the weirdest we've ever experienced. NASA scientists have already documented that the North pole's latitude and longitude location is changing at an alarming rate every year.
Fucked up part is there is nothing we can do about it. Zippo. We are at the complete mercy of the planet.

Terrence McKenna made a chart he called a novelty timeline... major events in history and such were plotted, the peak of human novelty according to that chart is in 2012.
