    Photoshop anomaly - what causes this?

    Sometimes a style applied to an image looks one way in Photoshop but completely different in ImageReady. Does anyone know what causes this? Sometimes I want to add animation or rollovers to a project so I jump to ImageReady only to find that things have changed.

    Here are a few examples:


    Style "X" as it looks when applied in Photoshop:

    OK, now, in the case of style "X", if I apply it in Photoshop then jump to ImageReady, it looks just like it did in Photoshop. If I apply style "X" in ImageReady then jump to Photoshop, in Photoshop it will look like it did in ImageReady. So, it doesn't change when jumping from one application to the other.

    In the case of style "Y", if I apply it in Photoshop then jump to ImageReady, the look changes as if I had applied the style in ImageReady and vice-versa. So, the image changes when jumping between applications. Style "Y" always looks one way in Photoshop and another in ImageReady. Unlike with style "X", I can't just apply the style in one program and then jump to the other to get the look I want because the image changes between applications.

    Also, as you can see, the thumbnail preview for style "X" looks different in the style panel of Photoshop from how it looks in the ImageReady style panel.

    I'm not sure what is causing this effect but I'd like to get it to stop.

    On a semi-related note, has anyone here purchased Photoshop CS, yet? Is it worth the money to upgrade?

      are you using a legal copy? if so, contact Adobe, they might help you or change the copy.

          The software is legit but I don't think there is anything wrong with the program; I think there is just something going on that I don't understand.

          I've been thinking of buying the newest version, anyway. I wonder how big a difference there is.

              the matrix has you...

              to answer your question about CS. i have it and i still have yet to get into all the new goodies but overall my only greivance is that toggling between PS and IR your images automatically close in one when working in the other. you must import it back via the toolbar.

                  Holy shit does that suck! Are you sure there isn't some option o make it behave the way it does in 7.0? Man, I jump back and forth a lot when I am doing design work and that could get to be a real hassle.

                  Would you say it's worth the upgrade, overall?

                      it looks like the number of colors is reduced .. I don't normally use layer styles in image ready though so I can't say for sure, but it sure looks like the number of colors it's showing is different

                          get it...or get left behind. i'm sure theres an option to switch it but i upgrade and havent taken the time to go through everything... i treat it like im using 7.0

                              photoshop CS is good if a group is working on an image. cs kinda feels like a patch or a hefty plugin unless some really big things are in it that i havent found yet.

                              your image ready problem sounds like you're importing files that take a default setting in a lower resolution or something. ive never had problemss with ps to imageready and I use imageready as a drop template to save my psd files as optimized jpgs. so thats quite frequent.

                                  Graphicsbytia said something similar. In fact, color depth was my first thought but other things don't seem to add up. For instance, some styles that use drop shadows end up with HUGE drop shadows when I load them in ImageReady. That could be a resolution problem but the rest of the image stays the same as it was in Photoshop.

                                  Oh, well, I'll just work around it for now.

                                          Perhaps. I think the next time I communicate with Adobe, it's probably going to be to buy Photoshop CS.

                                              I have never really cared for IR. I only use PS for certain things. Everything else gets Macromedia treatment...
