Make sure it's not a quick format - this just removes all of the indexing to the different files and folders so it appears empty, but the data is still there and can be recovered with a bit of work.
Don't use a magnet, that will fuck up the low level format and could physically damage the drive.Comment

If you are really paranoid, find some huge files to copy (even the same file with diff names) so it overwr<b></b>rites everything on the drive. Then format again.
