The reason I would imagine is because their minibars stock liquor in them. If you really wanna get around it, bring an ID that doesn't have your age on it (if you have one) or some kind of ID that doesn't make it so obvious as to your age (like a health care card), and when you check in, get on your cellphone with someone so they won't ask you many questions. Also make sure you prepay your hotel room like through Expedia and you'll almost always get it.
