Don't forget you can save more gas doing things like slowing down, no jackrabbit starts or quick stops, having the correct tire inflation, etc. I get over 20 mpg on the interstate in my 7 seater V6 4X4 SUV and I drive FAST - just by taking car of the vehicle itself
People bitch about the price of gas, yet they do nothing to conserve it.
They'll sit in line for an overpriced hamburger at a drive thru fast food joint with the engine running the whole time.
They continue to buy SUVs - which are meant to climb in the fucking mountains - you dont need one to get from the suburbs to your downtown offices.
They make 50 runs each week to the bank, store and post office. Because they are too stupid to consolidate everything into one trip.
I make ONE run per week. It is on Friday and it includes the post office, the bank, the store and whatever else needs done.
And then I get these e-mails telling me not to buy gas on Day "X" or dont buy from company "Y". They act as if Exxon will go bankrupt in a matter of hours if they just had one day without sales.
These people fail to grasp that gasoline is BUT ONE product that oil companys make money from. Petroleum is used in all sorts of things. One example is plastic.
When you go shopping, do you get plastic or paper bags? Any time you buy or get anything with plastic in it, you are supporting the oil companies.
It is pretty much impractical to stop buying gasoline. But if you conserve and reduce your consumption, the oil companies will collapse under thier own weight and they will be forced to either compete or die.
Everyone has a choice of paper or plastic. Choose paper.
The world consumes about 80 Million Barrels a day. There are 42 gallons per barrel. The US consumes about 18 Million barrels per day.
China can seriously fuck up the equation on the supply and demand in the coming years. Its estimated because China is consuming petro in its burdgeoning economy at unprecedented levels world consumption could skyrocket to 140 Million barrels per day and drive the prices up past $5 a gallon.

I wouldn't worry about China's dependence on crude oil. The Chinese are far too smart to fall for being dependent on foreign oil or oil as it is. They're way ahead on plant based products that do 10 times the quality product of fossil fuels.
If there's gonna be a run on anything in China, I'ld say watch hemp skyrocket. The industrial hemp plants not the 'get high' stuff. China will make an unprecedented fortune exporting their products crushing the oil cartels in their wake.
Best of all it won't cost the Chinese alot of money to pull it off.

Seriously I watched an energy industry report on this. They are very worried that with China continuing an unrelenting economic growth it will drive the demand for oil to twice what the world uses today. There's not enough production available to cover this much demand which means prices would skyrocket.

Quit yer bitchin
I can't understand how it can be 79.9 on one corner and 96.9 on the other corner ... its not uncommon these days to see a 20c different per litre which is stoopid!
from google calculator: 1 US gallons = 3.7854118 litres
so we've been around $3.50 per gallon now for several months
