    VideoCamera for DVD-quality

What is the best solution for shooting Video for both internet and DVD-Production? I want to get the quality of normal DVD-PornFilms investing as low as possible (not more than $100.000) in equipment.

The main question is not what camera to choose, but in what format to shoot to get the Private-like quality not overinvesting.
    The possibilities are:
    - DV
    SONY-DSR390 DVCAM
    $10.000 + $20.000 lens
    - Betacam
    Sony Betacam SX
    $35.000 + $20.000 lens
    - HD (HighDefinition)
    SONY HD Camcoder
$68.000 + $30-40.000 lens and other equipment for HD

I think you're aiming too high. Most of the DVD productions out there were done with a Sony VX2000, or something similar. Get the updated version, the VX2100 and you'll be fine. It retails for $3,000.

In Dv you can get that quality, with mini dv you can get that quality. Lighting and sound makes such a difference its incredible. A vx2100 or a dvx100a and some good lights, a good shot gun mic and a class or two and you are in business.

We used a Canon-XLs to shoot the content for web, but i don't want that quality on DVD... I want a cinematic-like picture... I understand that it's hard to achieve it without expencieve cameras and lens. I heard Lucas Films is shooting the last Film in HD. If highend HD-Cameras are enough for cinema screen it menas it is possible to get a cinematic-look on TV with this technology, but HD is VERY expencive at the time so i wonder if i can achive a good quality with high-end Digicam like Beta or DV that are used for TV and Doc-Films.

Either the dvx100a for cinema look or film if you are an artist. If you want to be successful spend the bulk of your money on really hot girls not video equiptment. lol At the end of the day its porn.

Yes, I know that lighting is the most important thing, but with a DVcam it's hard to get a good picture while moving camera (on rails).

Have you used dvx100a? Would you recomend it? I am thinking of changing from XL1s to DVX100A for web-production.

THe moving cam thing is not true , I watched the dp movie loaded. In the behind the scenes he shot the whole movie on a XL1 and he did lots of dolly work and it looked good. My friend who is a real videographer he does car racing, docu and the news, rented a dvx100a and couldnt say enough about it . If my wife would let me I would sell the vx2000 to get one. lol If you get the current issue(july) of camcorder and computer video there is a big review on it. They call it a true professional videographer camcorder.

I read the question, I think 100k in equipment is probably overkill for most porn. Do you disagree?

You think the whole indie movie "Pieces of April" was made for 100k and that included a nice sized star . lol Unless its last tango in paris and I think without porn being shown in movies anymore its not needed.

Offline shops and distributors are always intrested in "quality product" it would be really hard to get high on the DVD-market without a good picture, althoth most of films are cheap-made with DV-Camcoders and bad light.

That is not true, I might have a opportunity to shoot porn for video production. So I rented 6 titles at my local adult store from ninn to digital playground the production quality is not even close to that high and they mostly use xl1's . The bar is not even on the private stuff I rented ,they used two cameras for a scene and didnt match the color balance so it was off. From behind they had a orange tint and from the front it was normal.

I have bought a number of DVDs also. The quality of the most was the same as we make for the web, it's really true. Private has low-budget productions but also cinematic-quality films. The picture-quality and colours of Andrew Blake's films was standart for holywood films.

the truth is, the hottest, most realistic porn will be shot these days with a miniDV cam with interchangable lens (i.e. canon).

                            the reason is this:

the big shoulder cams can give tremendous resolution and S/N ratio---but we're talking DVD quality, not necessarily big screen movie theater quality. and it's had to get weird angles and get in really close with the shoulder cams. (you can buy used ones very cheap these days as local tv news crews trade up)

the 3 chip canons (or sony) can work pretty darn good in ambiant light.

i would get a wide lens and the canon, and have an assistant hold a mic on a boom and monitor audio input while looking at the monitor to keep the mic out of the frame---in this way you can get the slurping sounds and moaning really good (don't use the camera mic).

total out of pocket maybe 5K---and you can create video that has the technical quality of just about anything out there.

                                > i would get a wide lens
I actually need 4:3 for TV and not 16:9. Of course it's easier to get weird angles with small cameras, but it is still possible with a big one. But thanks a lot for the note.

                                > 35mm
Hey... come on... You want to say all of private films are shot on film? They would be golden... Some of them for sure, but Private can afford it, and i must get my investments back and with profit

If the choice is DV i would get a
                                Panasonic AG-DVX100A or Sony PDR170 (what's better i don't know yet)
                                +
                                Sony DSR-DSR 390 PK1 (shoulder)

If quality and low price is what youwant then look to Panasonic HDCam pro Line .. The 900 goes for 65 000 I think .. You can also look at the 415 or 715 DVCPRO .. Bopth will give you over 850 of rez at 50 mhz

Next is Sony .. the BVW 590 is a great DVcam I love it . Also the D35 or new D50 will give you the same rez ...

If you want to stay with a small format camera JVC has a great HDcam when used in Manual only settings or Sony's new PD170 minidvcam, can also shoot in DVcam on Minidv format tape ..

All depending what kind of suport equiipment is needed or you already have will determine what to use ..

If I was asked to do a high end HD prodcution but keep the cost down I would go with PAnasonic HDpro
