They train people in the military to not view others as people but objects...one of the ways they were able to get these guys to distance themselves from emotion when shooting at people was by using silhouette targets.

Saw an interesting documentary and I wont' quote numbers because it's been so long since I've seen it on Discovery channel or TLC but anyway every war before the vietnam war the actual % of soldiers who fired their weapons was something lower than 25%...they revamped their whole way of training these guys and in Vietnam increased to well over something like 75%...and you wonder why so many of those guys were fucked in the head.

People shoot people when playing paintball for fun.

Not much of a difference there.

Yeah, it is fun. I remember playing wargames when I was in the Marines. It's an awesome changes on so many different levels. You start off with massive troop movements, all trying to zero in on each other. After a bit all of the thousands of troops involved matter less and less, until it's one man against another man - or one man against three men.

And when you walk away from it, it's a fucking rush.

Granted, I've never seen live combat but I trained for it for four years of my life. I have yet to find anything that comes close.

I guess I am one of the assholes. I don't care about other people much and I never have. If you arent related or a friend of mine I probably dont care much if you live or die. I believe this because thats the way life is. Who gives a fuck if someone who doesnt effect you dies? if you do then you need to toughen up. Fuck life is what it is. We all live we all die.
