If they owed it to me in 2004, I'd take my deduction and write it off - then I'd have sent them a nice legal 1099-C that they have to file on their taxes , oh wait, I did that already
If they aint gonna pay me, at least they will have to pay Uncle Sam who will collect it one way or the other
