Well I hated the Mummy but I loved Underworld, the thing I consistenly hear about this movie Van Helsing is the effects are great, the story is bogus and goofy, the directing is also very weak, which is why I thought Mummy sucked. Before you see any movie, check the rating at imdb.com
It's not 100% accurate but it gives you a very good idea if the movies is good or bad

I am obsessed with monster movies, and was excited for this one when I first heard about it, but after seeing several previews I just can't convince myself to bother. This should have been an R-rated thing with all the famous movie monsters tearing people (and eachother?) apart. A monster apocalypse. Directed more like the 'Blade' series or a more classical version of 'Freddy vs Jason' (lol). These are horror icons! Instead it looks aimed at young kids with overprotective parents, and the CGI looks like a video game. Dracula/Frankenstein/Wolfman were perversions, as twisted as it got back in those days.. more than simpleminded childrens adventure stories.Comment
