I think that is about right - tho who knows the inner workings of Google? :-)
The only clean, or an attempted clean, scenario for the 5 ebony sites is have each on to totally different Class C/network. For futureproofing, it is also worth having the domains "owned" by different corps - it's too easy to check a whois :-)
With the above scenario, the next exercise is getting qualified inbound linkage to these five domains - a load of irrelevant PR1 and 2 sites may help a little, but it needs more than that.
It is claimed Google does not penalize domains on one IP - while this may be true, I would not be willing to spend time building inbound linkage on this. It is preferable that each domain have it's own IP as a basic fundamental.
