"The gravesite of a black man who was dragged to death in 1998 by three white men was found desecrated Thursday, police said. An obscenity and racial epithet were carved into a small metal plate on the bottom of the broken tombstone of James Byrd Jr. Byrd's name and birthdate were engraved on the plate... The grave has been disturbed before. Not long after Byrd's burial, a small brass nameplate was removed from the site."

I dont claim to be "proud to be an american" because i am against nationalism in any form - but im not ashamed of it either - i tell people im a human, then a floridian, then an american. you're born where you are born, you are either an asshole or a good person.
