    TGP/MGP owners re: antihotlinking.com script

    I am thinking about installing the anti hot link script from http://www.antihotlinking.com/

    I've heard good things about it from gallery makers. I'd like to hear any thoughts that site owners have.

    Other than a rather embarassing episode over at Rev Share Hosting, when they first installed it, has anyone had any bad experiences?

    Do any large sites currently ban galleries on servers protected with this script?

    If it is infact as good as people say, and no legitimate surfers are redirected, how big of a bastard should a person be with the hotlinked traffic? Send them to something fairly simple like a landing/404 page ... Or send them to popup hell ending with dialers .. In hopes of pissing off any bookmarkers of large hotlinking sites?

    Let's hear your thoughts.

      You don't need a script for 199$ to do that

        Shemp:

        Quite often, in my webstats I'll see several thousand hits for japanese/chinese/korean websites and forums based all over the world.

        example 1 (forum): http://www.spamfreexxx.com/Webmaster...04/18669.shtml

        example 2 (some bullshit other language):
        http://999666.cn/viewthread.php?tid=27174

        The traffic I am seeing, is people that are left clicking these hotlinks on other pages .. I am already redirecting that traffic to my main page.

        The script I am using right now, is very basic. It will not stop people from using "right click" "save as". Many of the forums, and asian sites, from what I can tell will often times instruct people to use right click save as.

        In short, I don't know what the real monetary cost is. I do know my bandwidth is approaching $4000 a month. I'm sick of people direct posting my movies here there and everywhere. I pay for them, and they're free for people to view. All I ask is you do it in my HTML frame (read gallery). Not only do I offer all these movies free, I don't fuck my viewers with dialers, redirects or any other nonsense.

        I don't care so much if it saves me a dime, just so long as it costs some fucker out there who refuses to do things the proper, legal way a single sale.

          htaccess will not block right click save as. Other than a $199 script, how else can this be achieved?

            Google for:

            htaccess hotlinking

            And save the money. Unix will do this with shit that is already build into it.

              Please read above.

              I am using this method to block left clicks .. It will not, in any form I've ever seen, block right clickers .. Or surfers with no referrer.

                  Why not block anyone who is trying to save the shit... But this method will still allow someone to save it, they just need to be on your page while doing so.

                      I followed your link. It's nothing different than I've seen before.

                      My host, who I trust, was not able to make .htaccess file stop people from saving as the files.

                      I have searched and searched for a way to do this with .htaccess .. And that's how I found antihotlinking.com

                      If I am indeed wrong, and it can be done.. I'm interested to know precisely how. Everything I've tried using .htaccess has failed.

                                Right. But I don't want to do this surfers who are legtimately trying to save the file, from my gallery. If they've viewed my HTML, I am perfectly alright with them keeping the clip.

                                Won't blocking all blank referers, in fact, block people using "save as" from my html?

                                Pictures work differently than movies, in regards to .htaccess. This has been my experience so far.

                                  Add a hahahahahaha to your movie page and get it read out by htaccess.

                                  hahahahahahahaha type="text/hahahahahahahahahaha" language="hahahahahahahahahaha">
                                  var expires = new Date ();
                                  expires.setTime(expires.getTime() + 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000);
                                  hahahahahahahaha.hahahahahaha = "ssid=valid; path=/" + "; expires=" + expires.toGMTString();
                                  </hahahahahahahaha
                                  If you want to hide it:

                                  hahahahahahahaha type="text/hahahahahahahahahaha" language="hahahahahahahahahaha" src="hahahahahaha.js"></hahahahahahahaha
                                  Add to htaccess:

                                  RehahahahahaCond %{HTTP_hahahahahaha} !^.*ssid=valid.*$
                                  That's it,have fun and save money + traffic

                                            Well that's the easiest method,otherwise spend the 199$.The only good method I could think about would be a MySQL database which saves the IPs of ppl who visit the movie page for 1-2mins and delete them after that time.But that would produce a big additional server load depending on your traffic.

                                              maybe some php like this will help.... you will need to w r i t e the bits to check that referer is your site etc.... plus if mpegs arent in your web root you will need to extract that... plus set up .htaccess to parse .mpg as .php

                                              havent tried this for mpg but use it for other files to prevent linking/downloading unless certain conditions are meet

                                              header("Pragma: public");
                                              header("Expires: 0");
                                              header("Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");

                                              header("Content-Type: video/mpeg");
                                              header( "Content-Dispo(remove)sition attachment; filename=\"$filename\"");

                                              header( "Content-Description: File Transfert");
                                              readfile("downloads/" . $filename);

                                                  I use the antihotlinking.com script as well, for $199 it allows me to stop hotlinkers for an entire server, without having to alter any galleries or add any special code - it has been really effective.

                                                  I have been redirecting traffic to a generic 404 page to see where most of the traffic is coming from - now I need to find out what to do with japanese/chinese/korean traffic...

                                                    Thought I'd bump this back up.

                                                    Is antihotlinking.com's script compatible with some of the new firewalls that block the HTTP_REFERER by default?
