Anyone here invest in precious metals?

    Gold, silver, platinum?

Bullion or rare coins? Is it locked away in the vault of the company you buy from or do you actually have it in your home or a safety deposit box?

I bought gold awhile back. You trade it on an exchange just like stocks.

I collect scrap gold from when I buy out house lots, then when I have a good amount of it I sell it

Yeah... and if it's in your home, please email me your address along with the estimated value. Thanks.

              That's one option, yes.

The thing is though, that if you are buying gold less as an investment and more as insurance against the collapse of the economy, to have an emergency stash of funds to fall back on, it doesn't make any sense to go with the paper option.

I want to have some gold and silver on hand, so if the dollar ever collapses I'll have enough cash to get by until I land on my feet.

Oh, and the reason collectible coins are better than bullion is that in times of emergency, the government of the United States reserves the right to seize all civilian gold. Do you think they're coming after the cold in my wall safe? Nope, they don't know it's there. They'll just seize all the gold sitting in banks and you'll be left with that worhtless piece of paper that says you have $100k in gold.

But yah, for short term investment, doing it on paper is more profitable because it's cheaper. Silver seems to be a good investment right now. Gold is still kind of pricey but it was down blow $400 last time I looked.

My hobby is making Gold jewellery so I have been putting chunks of raw gold away for many years. I buy used jewellery as well and melt it down then refine it myself and stash that away as well.
