thefly used to run couple of high traffic CJ sites. I remember trading with him 7-8k daily 2-3 years ago. His traffic was good, don't know why he closed his sites. He is actually the only person from GFY that I met personally. He is a cool guy. I hope he is doing ok whatever he is doing.Comment

I've been turning this letter over in my head for about a week now (maybe longer) -- but I don't want to put this off much longer so here goes...
When I got into this business, it started slowly... as we know -- it doesn't take much. In fact I started with a small art site and some random SE traffic searches (Pam Anderson) fell into my lap -- from there I put 2 and 2 together and got into celeb and playmate traffic and then eventually pornstars... As things escalated in the beginning I did some searching of myself -- but not so much to see if I was doing a good thing -- but more to decide if I felt comfortable doing what I was doing -- justifying my work to myself and to people that were close to me that didn't agree with it.
Until two weeks ago, I never realized that I had a responsibility and obligation to work to work to make this world "better" -- for the generations after us -- our children... I believe there's a "big picture" and I'm a part of it. I won't get into a deep philosophical or religious discussion here -- but take for instance a book like Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" -- there are some societal trends that won't correct themselves -- there is a point of no return: I strongly believe that things will get worse (society as a whole)... and our generation at least needs to try -- to take some initiative and try to turn things around... I know I haven't made much effort so far! "Adult" is just one small slice of the pie, but still a significant one -- I don't think anyone will disagree with that... This internet phenomenon is NEW and we're responsible for it because WE created it.
Our generation needs to put things into perspective and take some responsibility for the content... Not too many people talk about it in the open, but it's definitely a concern among some of the more influential and foward-thinking people connected to this business... but I'm not going to stick around to try to make an impact -- my vote is to just quietly walk away, take what I've learned with me, and move on to other things that are more rewarding for me... That's not to say I wouldn't consider producing compelling content that I was proud of... imagine if Star Wars was just a porno and hadn't made the huge cultural impact that it did!
In this business I have touched people's lives -- I have changed some people's lives completely -- guys that I got into this business... How I feel about that I'm still not sure, but what's done is done now and I'm moving forward... There's a lot more I can give to the world besides blind link scripts. So yes, I'm an idealist now 100%. I'd like to say a lot more -- but I won't. I the people on this board especially and I'm glad I had this forum to drop my 2 cents off on my way out the door.
I have a few ideas for some mainstream projects but nothing solid as of yet... I'm considering working with software in the areas of traffic/data visualizations, software patents, project management and design but I'm still in the brainstorming phase -- I may decide to move into another field entirely.
