My International Labor Day message: ABOLISH TRADE UNIONS

Labor unions protect the weak, the lazy, the dumb, and those who lack ambition.

To be fair, trade unions have brought some benefits to the working person... like fucked up union dues, higher inflation, crippled domestic industries because of inelastic wage structures, soaring health care premiums

But really... its time to do away with this monstrosity of the 1800s and let every individual employee bargain their way to higher wages. If you're worth it, you'll get it. If not, you are just a parasite and should either go back to school or somehow increase your marketable skills.

    Let the free market decide.

I'm assuming most of you own your own businesses so you would agree with many of these points. If not, then you may be a weak sheep that believes in shaking down management for benefits you don't deserve.

            Workers who belong to unions:
            -earn higher wages
            -receive better training
            -work fewer hours
            -have longer job tenure
            -live longer

Union membership also closes the wage gap between women and men and fights discrimination.

Unions can also hurt businesses because they are forced to keep employees they no longer need due to new technologies which replace certain employee functions.

A good example is what unions did to California's ship ports. Many 3rd world countries have better and more efficient ship port terminals because they don't have a union forcing them to keep employees that could easily be replaced by a machine.

If a worker wants to have a better life, wage, and job....they should go get educated rather then fall back on a union.

Good point. However, capital (if the economics are correct) would rather buy a machine than labor. Perhaps, with the rapid evolution of technology, labor and capital (ie., machinery) are more and more interchangeable. Unfortunately, oftentimes labor unions stand in the way of this efficient interchange.

labor creates the machines, the technology, the facilites.... or are you referring to labor in the more traditional sense, ie assembly lines of regimented workers, all working in unison and dancing to the bosses shift change buzzer?

The right of labor to collectively bargain to get better wages, benefits, and working conditions for its members is no different than Wal-Mart using its purchasing power to get lower prices on goods from manufacturers.

Yet when Wal-Mart makes a deal for itself you call it capitalism and when workers make a better deal for themselves you say they got something they didn't deserve and each worker should have to negotiate for themselves.

Should each individual walmart store have to negotiate the price of kraft cheese on its own as well?
