Once one of the fans in a server seized up. This was before the days of fan monitoring/alarms, so the first I knew of it was when it went offline. I got to the site 30 mins later, and the internal metal frame of the case was so hot that I couldn't hold it for more than a couple of seconds.
I have no idea how long the power supply cooked (after the fan seized) before it finally gave out.
