Nobody has a digital camera that makes movies? None of you have transferred it to a cd for dvd playback?

VCD plays on DVD players.

Did that .mov file come from a still camera w/ movie file capabilities? If so, I don't think the quality will be up to par for DVD. The playback might look bad. It'll never be the same quality as a video camera, that's for sure.

that's strange that it would come off the camera in .mov format... .mov is usuallly encoded with pretty good compression.

Actually, it's a digital camera (made to take pictures) that has video taking capabilities. Yes, .mov can be played back in with quicktime, but I've converted it in the thing that seemed 'natural' to me (mpeg-4) but it didn't work. Going to try those suggestions on that site.......hopefully it works - my cousins are leaving tomorrow morning for the other side of the world!!!

as someone mentioned above .. a .mov file from your digicam will not produce "dvd" quality video.

but regardless ... if u still want to put it on a CD, you could:

1) convert .mov to .avi (quicktime player pro has built in functions to do this)

2) avi .. to mpeg2 (pretty much, there are 2 mpg2 formats ... SVCD and DVD) ... the choice depends on your output media obviously.

3) use a burning program like Nero to burn the "video" cd ... Nero will ask if u want to burn a VCD, SVCD, or DVD

a good tool to convert AVI > Mpeg2 .. is TMPGencoder.

hopefully this will help a bit.. since u seem short on time =)

Marting from club-xstream had mentioned that VideoStudio7 could have done it and after checking out all the others, I tried that (why do I always do things backwards?) Anyhow, I went from .mov to mpg then used Nero to burn it SVCD to the cd. Worked like a charm and so damn fast!!!
I have shitloads of these little movies I take at everyones' party that I keep saying 'ah I have to put them on a cd' Anyhow, now I know how!!! Thanks!!!!!!

Anyone know how to do it with mini-dv tapes?? :-) Let me read that dvdrhelp.com page ;)

Yes, and some smaller digital cameras like the Olympus C3000 series, the Nikon Cool Pix cameras make 30 sec - 2 min quicktime movies.

I usually just convert in TMPGenc to VCD compliant MPG1 then burn with VCDeasy. If you need to make multiple copies VCDeasy can make an image that you can burn in your favorite program.

Actually, a question about codecs

How or where on the 'internet earth' can you download everything you can possibly need so you don't have to waste your time downloading a large file that you cannot end up seeing afterall cuz you're missing something?
