People make stupid choices and people pay the price. Mocking them is a lot of fun. It's everyone's right to laugh at others.

And I am not going to claim there is some line, some taboo too sacred to laugh at. People make jokes about rape, murder, and death all the time.

But this whole situation is sickening, and I just don't feel like laughing. I guess if I thought that people I know would start wearing condoms when they act as talent, I wouldn't be so humorless about it all; but, some people have to learn the hard way. You know who you are.

Maybe getting the message drilled into their heads by an infected fellow porn star will make some of the newer young ones think twice. I said this in another thread a while back. Where is all this out pouring of emotion for Daren? If all the sympathy is there for Lara why isn't it there for him? Is it because he is male talent? It is because he is black male talent?

I too am starting to doubt the commonly told story but I also know that I am too far away from the actual situation to know for sure. So, are we treating the cute girl as the victim and the big black man as an attacker or something? Does he not deserve the same sympathy if we are dishing it out?

Now, this fan sign thing is just not right. Who was it that said 'I know lets make almost a joke out of it ...hey call Lara' ? Awareness is a fantastic thing. I have worked a LOT with hiv/aids awareness in the past. Two things come to mind with this one.

Firstly, she is 18, 19 or 20 - what excuse does she have at that age NOT to be aware? Doesn't change the sorrow of her having contracted it however she did but if she is only now just aware and she has only been positive for a short amount of time then she needs to be out studying up on the disease, learning how to talk to other people with it or who might want information BEFORE she puts herself up as a spokesperson. If she does all of that then I will back her to the hilt.

Secondly, unless her awareness group is only going to be focused on sex workers (which would be fantastic in its own right) then having a porn star fronting an awareness foundation may turn out to hurt that foundation rather than help it. Say they need gov't money at any point - unless she goes Christian and makes a big deal out of having been used by the industry they aren't going to want to give a foundation fronted by a porn star any money. Secondly, if that awareness group is doing ANYTHING targetted at schools they won't want to touch it either if she is fronting it. Thirdly, it may be some are reinforcing HIV/AIDS stereotypes as far as who contracts it.

She needs to take time out from this industry circles. Lara - on the off chance you actually read any of these posts - go clear your head for a while. This industry is full of people wanting to exploit you and until you step right back for a while they will continute to do so. There are also some very good people but at the moment you are in such focus that dollar signs dance in people's heads and not t cell counts.
